I don't know how many hours and dollars were spent by this hot-off-the-presses official government duplication of what Chris Mooney laid out two years ago in The Republican War on Science, but I suppose it's always good to have confirmation that:
the Bush Administration has engaged in a systematic effort to manipulate climate change science and mislead policymakers and the public about the dangers of global warming.

The Committee's 16-month investigation reveals a systematic White House effort to censor climate scientists by controlling their access to the press and editing testimony to Congress. The White House was particularly active in stifling discussions of the link between increased hurricane intensity and global warming. The White House also sought to minimize the significance and certainty of climate change by extensively editing government climate change reports. Other actions taken by the White House involved editing EPA legal opinions and op-eds on climate change.

Science, schmience.
I have a great love for science and scientists! It's easy to see how some hard working person gets upset when the government officially says global warming ain't no big deal!
As hard as it may be to believe, I think it is possible that they could know the same facts we do, but for some reason, we don't know about, they take the stands they do.
So regardless of their stand I think the best course of action is to do what we can regardless of what they say.
I was on over 2 dozen science blogs yesterday and the vast majority had a push for the presidential science debates right at the top.
I am old enough to have seen many grass roots movement start and by persistence end up accomplishing goals that at the start were called impossible.
It is rough when you live in the USA and your government seems to be fighting, preventing you from you doing what you know is best. But if we can all do the little we can and find others of like mind it can grow to the point where we can't be ignored any more! I have seen it happen many times in the past without even having to crack open one history book! LOL!
