Hey Hey 2009

2008 was a rotten year for a lot of people, I know, but I'll always have a soft spot for it, because it marked the beginning of the SteelyKid Era. There was plenty that sucked about 2008, but not nearly enough to outweigh that.

(There will be Baby Blogging later today, but the Empress of Eastern New York would not deign to pose this morning, so you'll have to wait a bit for a cute photo.)

2009 has been dubbed the International Year of Astronomy. Well, it's probably been dubbed the International Year of a lot of things, but the relevant one for ScienceBlogs is Astronomy. It comes a little too late to save the year like Apollo did, but since we're talking about a field that routinely puts error margins in the exponent, we can cut them some slack. Try to make time to look through a telescope at least once this year.

Best wishes to all, and may everybody in your light cone have a better 2009.

The questions posed in yesterday's posts about hopes for 2008 were half of what we were asked by the Powers That Be. The other half: What scientific development do you fear you'll be blogging or reading about in 2008? As with yesterday's posts, the original question was more general, but I…
Part 2 of Ye Olde Blog So You Want To Be an Astrophysicist? series. Lightly re-edited. Should you do astronomy as an undergrad? (the following is in part shamelessly cribbed from prof Charlton's freshman seminar for our majors): Do you like stars and stuff? If not, you probably should look for an…
In which we look back on the ninth full year of this blog, and one of the most unpleasant incidents in the whole run, which nearly ruined what was otherwise a good year. ------------ This is probably going to be the longest of these posts, at least in terms of the number of links included-- I've…
