As someone who worked on windfarms for a few years back in the 1980s, this type of damage isn't that unusual. We've lost a few blades due to overspeed or simple metal fatigue due to the millions of flex cycles on the blade root. Those thrown blades can go a long way, spinning and creating lift as they fly.
Machines are a lot more reliable now. Attributing failure to "UFOs" is just plain silly.
