I've been living the nightmare of the worst existence, and my reaction to the Freakonomics column is disappointment, but not surprise. It's just predators and prey.

The authors are worlds removed from reality.

Those of us who exist like this are truly invisible and unreal to them. We aren't even thought of as human, let alone treated as such - or maybe we are and and that's the state of humanity.

May I ask why you thought this was important to include? For its amusement value? Entertainment?

I thought it was an interesting question to think about. I wasn't all that impressed with any of the answers, but it's an interesting question. If I had something more substantial than that, it would merit its own post; as it is, it goes in the links dump.
