Physics Has a Flavor

SteelyKid is fascinated by the John Archibald Wheeler tribute issue of Physics Today:

"I find his popular writings much more digestible than the Big Book of Gravity," she says. "Misner, Thorne, and Wheeler is much too big to put in my mouth."

More like this

The attraction may be the glue? I had a puppy when I was in grad shul, back when physics and paperback were orthogonal, who during teething chewed the spines off several of my (hardbound) books. I subsequently found out the attraction was the NaCl in the glue.

He was one of my favorite teachers. Not that I ever knew much physics.

I don't think it's anything to do with the binding. After I took that, I replaced it with an expired AAA membership card, which was also sitting in the desk in front of the keyboard. She happily chewed on that for several minutes.

She's just at the stage where anything she can pick up goes into her mouth.

As a father of four, that picture and the caption evoked a surprisingly strong trip down nostalgia lane. Thanks for that.

Ain't kids fun?

In my opinion the largest threat for California are cataclysms and ecological catastrophes. Not important is how many money we have because one tragedy can us take all.

Well you checked, and thank you for responding. Children are easy to make but hard to complete so some extremes of stewardship are warranted.

The 4 stages of human literacy:
I. Eats books.
II. Tears pages.
III. Looks at the pictures.
IV. Reads.

so you have 3 more stages to look forward to!

Yum! But I personally like the flexible chewiness of Misner, Thorne, and Wheeler. It's like ten or fifteen Physics Today's all rolled into one!
