"Reading textbooks gives me scary flashbacks of my days as an undergraduate (about 2 weeks ago). I did a little research on the internet and supposedly there are these things kids are calling "light reads" that make reading fun again. Comic books/Graphic novels are the pinnacle of fun, so I put together a quick list of illustrated reading to salivate the mind in absence of raw textbook facts."

"It happens when matter meets anti-matter. That there is such a thing called anti-matter never ceases to amaze me. Paul Dirac, when he arrived at the famous equation for electron-, realized that the equation predicted two particles: one was the electron and the other a as yet unknown particle which he called the positron. Great physicists are guided towards Truth by the subtle hand of Beauty. Dirac's equation was exquisite. Hence, it must be true, he declared in 1928. The positron was discovered in 1932. (Dirac was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics the following year.)"

"If the obvious ingredients for cultural bridging are common ground (beer, football, dancing), and a sense of humor, thereâs another key ingredient in these examples: airplane tickets. It makes sense that Dhani Jones would need to go to Ireland to learn about hurling, or that Gavin would need to fly to Windhoek to embarass himself in front of a bunch of Namibians. Other globalists have taken this idea to absurd ends, like Matt Harding, whoâs wandered the globe, dancing badly.
Are plane tickets the first ingredient in these equations? Do they need to be?" -

#8 - Paul Dirac
I'm halfway through Graham Farmelo's Dirac biography at the moment, and enjoying it quite a bit. Farmelo cites Dirac as one of the first physicists to evaluate theories on their mathematical beauty, rather than waiting for experiments.
There has been a fair amount of discussion of Graham Farmelo's The Strangest Man: The Hidden Life of Paul Dirac, Mystic of the Atom-- Peter Woit reviewed it on his blog, the
So, who are the people in yesterday's poll about theoretical physicists, and why should you know them?
On the subject of Do I have Swine Flu? I suggest the readers use the view source options on their browser for that particular page. The CSS is somewhat interesting and the javascript in the page itself reveals their intentions. (To get noticed by the almighty Google) No idea who TheColonel is, (I don't Reddit) but this is interesting dynamic in play with sites such as that one.
