Noticed this sth hemisphere winter that my dog will perch by the open fire for long periods but kat, even though he will sleep by one's warm feet at the base of the bed, will avoid the fireplace and electric heaters.
He seems to feel the cold but has shown no inclination to use the fireplace as a heat source!
One has a picture of prehistoric wolves/dogs moving towards man and fire for obvious benefits, but katz seem aloof to fire, at least in my experience.
