Get Out the Vote in Ohio

Word has reached me[1] that, "me that the most notorious creationist on the Ohio State Board of Education, Deborah Owens Fink, has a challenger in the Novemeber 7th election." For the politically inclined out there, some information:

The challenger is former Ohio congressman Tom Sawyer. She is asking for help from the other Citizens for Science groups in getting the word out and encouraging people to donate and get involved with the campaign...Collectively, we likely have several thousand readers in Ohio that we can encourage to get involved and support Sawyer's campaign. So I'm asking all my fellow science bloggers to post about this over the next week or two, and to do so several more times leading up to the election. Here is some information that will help:

Sawyer's campaign website is http://www.votetomsawyer.com. People can donate money there, or volunteer to get involved by handing out literature, answering phones, making phone calls, and so forth. Or they can contact Steve Weeks at eul1993 at hotmail dot com to volunteer. The address to send donations to is:

Martin Spector, Treasurer

4040 Embassy Pkwy, Suite 500, Akron, OH 44333

If you're interested in getting creationist loons off school boards, consider helping them out. You don't have to donate money-- just spreading the word to others (who might donate or volunteer) probably helps.

Two sources point me towards a Neville Nicholls letter about a 35 year old paper by Sawyer, but Inel gets the hat tip.
Previously unopposed, "...the most notorious creationist on the Ohio State Board of Education, Deborah Owens Fink, has a challenger in the Novemeber 7th election." The election is non-partisan and the serious challenger is Tom Sawyer.
According to the Tom Sawyer campaign for the Ohio Board of Ed, Deborah Owens-Fink said in a radio appearance: "If you are Christian, vote for Debbie. If you believe in evolution, abortion and sin, vote for Sawyer."
A while back I pointed out a new group in Ohio dedicated to helping protect Ohio's schools against foolishness, and that the biggest target was one Deborah Owens "Truly A" Fink.

What's this with "personal communication"? I will not believe one word you say until I see the PDF of a paper from a peer-reviewed journal! LOL
