Heart-warming morning thought: SteelyKid is going to grow up in a world where "Can a black man be elected President?" will be considered a stupid question.
That's worth a smile:
Hell, that's worth some dancing in the streets:
In a heavy drizzle shortly after midnight, several thousand people filled the barricaded segment of Pennsylvania Avenue between 15th and 17th streets in front of the White House dancing and chanting "O-ba-ma!" and "Whose house? Obama's house!" Some sang "America the Beautiful" and "Star Spangled Banner."
At 14th and U streets NW, hundreds of Sen. Barack Obama's supporters chanted, "Yes, we can!" People danced on bus shelters. Strangers hugged.
Congratulations to, well, everyone.

Due to work stuff, I'm very busy this week, and I don't have time to write a detailed
pathological language post, so I chose something that doesn't take a lot of explanation, but
While browser over at programming.reddit.com, I came across something simultaneously hideous and amazing.
I saw it at Julie's.
"American Music," the Violent Femmes
"California Stars," Billy Bragg and Wilco
"The City of New Orleans," Arlo Guthrie
"Song to Woody," Bob Dylan
"The Body of an American," the Pogues
Dancing in the streets? Like a monkey, maybe? (I know, been there, done that... well done, by the way).
I'm also glad that SteelyKid will grow up in such a world.
SteelyKid is going to grow up in a world where "Can a black man be elected President?" will be considered a stupid question.
When I was SteelyKid's age it was a stupid question for the opposite reason. It wasn't until Jesse Jackson started running for president, or maybe a little earlier, that it became a non-stupid question. When I was in high school, our county still had some public high schools which were de facto segregated (and I'm not talking about some backwater place either; this was Dade County, Florida, which includes Miami).
We still have a long way to go, but we have made some progress.
C'mon, Chad, you know it was all about the hair. Americans simply will not elect a president with bad or aging hair and Obama just happened to have the better of McCain in this department. There surely isn't any other reason why he'd win, is there?!
Here's a short list of questions that aren't stupid ...
"Can a woman be elected President?"
"Can an atheist be elected President?"
"Can a gay man be elected President?"
"Can a real liberal be elected President?"
and last but not least,
"Can anyone with less than $500 million be elected President?"
